Equine Health – West Nile Virus Alert

With the extremely wet winter and spring mosquitoes are everywhere. I wanted to let our clients know the severity of the West Nile Virus threat. To check for alerts and outbreaks in your area go to Outbreak-Alert.com Simply enter your email or cell along with your zip code and you will receive live updates.

Symptoms to watch for – Clinical signs of encephalitis in horses may include a general loss of appetite and depression, in addition to any combination of the following signs:
  • fever.
  • weakness of hind limbs.
  • paralysis of hind limbs.
  • impaired vision.
  • ataxia (weakness)
  • head pressing.
  • aimless wandering.
  • convulsions (seizures)

To protect your horse from WNV vaccinations are important. But is there something else we can do to help build and maintain your horses immune system. The answer is yes – Immune Builder and our Wellness Formula Both of these products can used on an individual basis or together to provide maximum protection. Over the past two years we have used this combination to clear Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) , Strangles and Pigeon Fever.

The intent of this post is to alert our clients of a possible health issue not to sell products. It is much easier to make informed decisions on our horses health when we know all the options.

I hope everyone has a great summer. Ride safe and often.

Regards,

Ron
